I am very happy to announce, that for the first time ever, my dh has taken on baby-duty in the middle of the night! And our oldest is 8 years old!
It hasn’t been a big deal, really, because I breastfeed and work from home. He obviously lacks milk and travels around during the day to do his job. Don’t need him falling asleep at the wheel! Though at times I’ve still found myself exasperated. Like that night last week, and then again last night when, no matter how tired the baby was, he would just not go to sleep. While I do not believe in the cry-it-out thing, no amount of nudging was going to convince him to go to sleep. After a couple hours, I finally let him cry for a little while in the playpen in the living room. Getting him a couple times to see if he was ready to nurse to sleep, but he’d always pretend to nurse and then kick his legs all over the place, rub his hand all over my shirt and everywhere he could reach. Aggrevating. DH slept through it last week, but not last night. He came down the hallway and I said “Sorry” and he said don’t worry about it! Picked him up and was so nice about the whole thing! (Sleep is a commodity we take seriously around here lol, so this was a big deal.) A few minutes later he told me to go to bed and a while after that he brought him back into bed saying “Try nursing him, I think he’s ready to sleep”. Me: “But he’s smiling at me!!” But when I did nurse him, he finally went to sleep. Less than 2 hours before it was time to get up.
I am so, so tired today, but also grateful to dh and so thanking God for this wonderful change in him.
