“Because I love you”

Last night X (still 4yo) was sleeping on the girls’ bedroom floor and I heard him wake in the night, crying loudly. Thinking they’d tormented him, I called for him. He came and was scared. He asked if he could sleep with me and I obliged. A few minutes later I open my eyes to make sure he’s not messing around and find him staring me in the face. Closely.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m looking at you.”
“Why?”
“Because I love you.”
